James Wan talks about directing the film “Crime from the Amazon” for Universal!

While Leigh Whannell, who frequently collaborates with her, is working on The Wolf Man back to life, we learned today via Deadline that James Wan is in initial talks about directing a new version of the horror classic The horror of the Amazon for Atomic Monster and Universal Pictures!

In its report today, Deadline states: “James Wan crafts a grounded, modernized retelling that leans toward emotional horror while paying respect to the original classic.”

Unlike other Universal Monsters classics such as Frankenstein, Wolf Man and Dracula, The horror of the Amazon has not been the subject of countless remakes over the years, making it ripe for a modern-day revival. Guillermo del Toro’s Oscar-winning Shape of Water – The Secret of Water was heavily influenced by the classic story, although it was not an official adaptation.

Directed by Jack Arnold, the original The horror of the Amazon was released in 1954, two decades after Universal had established itself as a horror powerhouse in the 1930s. Sequels followed The creature’s revenge (1955) and The creature walks among us (1956), with several remakes planned over the years but never seeing the light of day.

Filmmakers were awarded for various unrealized creature Projects over the years include John Carpenter, Peter Jackson, Ivan Reitman and Breck Eisner, to name a few.

Interestingly, James Wan recently directed a Aquaman Spinoff horror film titled The ditchbut this project ultimately failed. It seems that his upcoming The horror of the Amazon With this film, Wan can finally satisfy his craving for aquatic horror films.
