Jake Paul reveals ‘concerned’ call from Mike Tyson before fight with Mike Perry

Jake Paul has revealed that Mike Tyson is “concerned” about their fight being jeopardised as the influencer prepares to fight Mike Perry this weekend.

Nearly 20 years after his last professional fight, Tyson was scheduled to face Paul in a surprise crossover fight on Saturday night, but the date was postponed because the 58-year-old recently suffered from a stomach ulcer.

The new date has been set for November 15, both for Paul vs. Tyson and for Amanda Serrano’s highly anticipated rematch with Katie Taylor as the undercard.

However, Paul has decided to first look for a new opponent for this weekend and will face former UFC fighter Perry, who has been active in bare-knuckle boxing for the past two years.

“This is a Mike appetizer,” said Paul.

“A warm-up for Mike, but at the end of the day they’re both killers and I have to be on my guard. He has the power to beat anything with one punch and I have to respect that. But other than that it’s going to be easy.

“This is what I do. I’m here to fight. I love taking risks and competing in big events. Mike Tyson called and was worried that this fight could jeopardize the biggest fight of my career. That puts pressure on me and I love that. I’m not going to slow down for anyone.

“Mike Perry will not be the one to stop me. I am on my way to the World Championship. I will not slow down for anyone.”

Paul’s fight against Tyson was surprisingly approved as a professional fight after the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation vetted both fighters. It was scheduled to be contested over eight rounds of two minutes each, using 14oz gloves instead of the usual 10oz.

Even before his latest shock, there were significant concerns about Tyson’s health, and heavyweight Deontay Wilder sharply criticized the commission’s decision to sanction the fight.

“He’s too old for that,” Wilder told Sportsbook Review.

“We can talk about the pros and cons, but at the end of the day, they don’t give a shit. I don’t think anyone cares about Mike, otherwise they wouldn’t sanction the fight.”

He added: “I don’t want the last thing I remember of him to be him being beaten down by a YouTuber.”

Tyson countered these comments, telling Esquire: “Then let Mike get hurt.

“You don’t have to worry about paying my bills. Everyone says that doesn’t make sense, but how old is he? He’s not who I am.”

“He can’t go to Mongolia and someone knows who the hell he is.”
