Trailing 40-10 in the fourth quarter and after he conceded four sacks, the Jaguars pulled quarterback Trevor Lawrence from their Monday Night Football game against the Bills.

Lawrence finished the game completing 21 of 38 passes for 178 yards, one touchdown and one interception. The Jaguars did not disclose an injury to Lawrence when he left the game.

Jacksonville selected former New England first-round pick and offseason addition Mac Jones and had its quarterback switch possession after Buffalo traded starting quarterback Josh Allen in favor of former Chicago first-round pick Mitch Trubisky.

Against the Jaguars, Allen completed 23 of 30 throws for 263 yards and four touchdowns.

While this move doesn’t necessarily mean Jacksonville is looking to bench Lawrence, it’s still notable, coming less than three games into the five-year, $275 million contract extension he signed with the Jaguars this offseason.

This deal makes Lawrence the highest-paid player in the NFL, along with Cincinnati’s Joe Burrow, in terms of average annual salary ($55 million).

The Jaguars’ disastrous offensive performance on Monday night was their latest to start the 2024 season after averaging 15 points per game through the first two weeks of the season, including Jacksonville’s 20-17 loss at Miami and its 18-13 home loss to Cleveland.

In his three starts, Lawrence completed 47 of 89 passes for 560 yards, with two touchdowns and one interception.

At press time, the Jaguars trailed the Bills 47-10 with two minutes left in regulation.
