“It was fun to try things like, ‘Is this going to make you massively depressed?'” she told EW. “And they said, ‘No, no, no. We were just wondering why.'”

One change that fans didn’t object to was the renaming of the restaurant from Bib’s to Root.

However, Christy added that she changed a line of dialogue from the novel that directly relates to the name of the film.

“As a screenwriter, it’s a total no-no that no character ever says the title of the movie,” she told the outlet. “So in my first draft, the draft they read, I had them say the line, ‘It ends here, between you and me,’ blah, blah, blah. I didn’t have them say, ‘It ends with us.'”

She continued, “The whole room of 20 mega fans was like, ‘You have to say that!'”

“I was like, ‘I’m sorry, forgive me! I was just trying it out!’ It was like a wall of voices screaming at me, ‘She has to say it,'” she added. “I said, ‘You don’t usually say that (title),’ and they said, ‘It doesn’t matter. In this movie, she has to.'”

Was the change for the better? Christy thinks like this: “And I have to say, when I actually watch the film now, I think: ‘They were right and I was wrong.’ In this film, it’s different. That’s it.”

“That’s actually my favorite moment in the movie now. It’s so honest, so real, so raw. I think (Blake’s) performance is really deep, so I’m grateful that it’s in there and the way it should be. I love that they read an early draft and didn’t let me get away with it for a second,” she said.

Blake recently also had a message for fans of the novel.
