Blake Lively reached a career milestone by It ends with us.

According to Deadline, the romantic drama is the actress and producer’s highest-grossing film to date, having grossed over $242 million worldwide since its release on August 9.

Lively, who celebrated her 37th birthday on August 25, next plays in A Simple Favor 2had already expressed her appreciation to the film’s fans in her Instagram stories on August 13, just days after the film – an adaptation of the 2016 novel by author Colleen Hoover – was released in theaters.

In the film, Lively plays a woman named Lily Bloom whose new relationship with Ryle Kinkaid (director/co-star Justin Baldoni) turns abusive before she finally decides to end the relationship.

It ends with us‘ The release was marred by controversy. Even before the film’s release, rumors began to swirl that Baldoni, 40, and Lively had clashed over creative differences. Baldoni did much of his press work for the film independently of Lively.

Lively and Baldoni’s co-star Brandon Sklenar, who plays Atlas, Lily’s romantic partner in the film, posted a statement on Instagram on August 20 imploring fans not to spend their energy “denigrating the women” who worked on the film, apparently referring to the alleged drama.

“There is not a single person involved in the making of this film who was not aware of the responsibility we had in doing so,” he wrote in this statement, among other things. “A responsibility to all women who have experienced intergenerational trauma – domestic violence – or struggle to look in the mirror and love who they see.”
