Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon leave 100 dead and over 400 injured on the deadliest day of the conflict

According to the Lebanese Health Ministry, Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon claimed 100 lives on Monday, September 23, making it the deadliest day since the conflict began in October. The shelling, which hit 300 targets, marks a new high point in the ongoing battle between Israel and the militant Hezbollah group.

Lebanon’s Health Ministry reported more than 400 people injured in the attacks, which followed a wave of violence last week after Hezbollah launched a series of retaliatory strikes on Israel. Before Monday’s escalation, the conflict in Lebanon had claimed 600 lives, including both militants and civilians.

The Israeli military announced its latest action on social media, showing a photo of military chief Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi giving the green light for more airstrikes. Israeli leaders, including Halevi, have announced tougher measures against Hezbollah in the coming days. Hezbollah, meanwhile, claimed responsibility for firing dozens of rockets at an Israeli military base in the Galilee and attacking defenses in Haifa for the second day in a row.

As the attacks intensified, Israel issued a rare warning urging residents of southern Lebanon to leave areas where Hezbollah suspected weapons depots were located. But the warning did not appear to trigger a mass exodus, raising fears that civilians could unwittingly be put in danger.
