Labor Day is a holiday, but not everyone is sure if the mail will be delivered.
Many postal services may have varying hours on this day, while many restaurants and stores will have regular hours depending on where you live.
Labor Day is a federal holiday observed on the first Monday in September to celebrate the American labor movement and its achievements in expanding and protecting workers’ rights.
For many people, this day also marks the end of summer, but keep in mind that many businesses and organizations close their doors on the holidays.
If you are expecting mail this Monday, be warned that many postal services are closed.
Post office
Because the U.S. Postal Service is a government agency, all branches are closed on Labor Day and no regular mail or packages are delivered all day.
However, some services, such as ordering stamps or printing shipping labels, will continue to be available online.
In total, the US Postal Service celebrates 11 official holidays, including Labor Day. Regular service will resume on Tuesday.
Due to the national holiday, all federal, state and local government offices will be closed on Monday. Government employees will have a full day off and will not return to work until Tuesday.
FedEx
Some people may also be unsure about FedEx’s operational status on Labor Day.
Like the U.S. Postal Service, the company will not offer any services on Labor Day and will not deliver any mail other than “Custom Critical” deliveries. This means FedEx Express, FedEx Ground and FedEx Home Delivery will all be closed.
However, FedEx offices may operate on different schedules, so it’s best to call ahead to check.
UPS
United Postal Service stores are also expected to remain closed during the national holiday.
Domestic mail will also not be delivered on Monday, but UPS Express Critical may be available for mail delivery.
Other companies
In addition to mail carriers, banks will also close their doors on the federal holiday. This includes top banks like JPMorgan Chase, PNC, Truist and Capital One. However, ATMs should still be available for your cash needs.
Opening hours of many retail chains can vary by brand and location, so please call to confirm before visiting the store.
Walmart will be open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., Target stores from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
