The Dallas Cowboys’ play at defensive back was an insult to the sport of football in Week 2. To make matters worse, the group is in disarray heading into Sunday’s game against Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens. If the Cowboys can’t stop the run again, Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb may not be able to come to their aid.
However, Lamb scared Dallas fans on Wednesday when he was listed as DNP in practice. Trevon Diggs also missed practice with an apparent foot injury. With Jake Ferguson and Mazi Smith also injured, fans couldn’t help but fear the worst for Sunday.
Those fears lasted a full 24 hours. He told reporters he was just sore and started practicing again on Thursday. Lamb was completely off the injured list on Friday, so he will play against the Ravens.
That’s not the only good news for Cowboys fans. In addition to Lamb, Diggs and Ferguson have also been cleared to play. Smith was only available for limited action on Friday, but is also expected to play after missing practice on Wednesday and Thursday due to back problems.
Lamb’s stats would suggest he hasn’t hit his stride this season, but that’s far from the case. He has nine catches for 151 yards and a touchdown. Cowboys fans are used to that being a number 88 weekly stat, but he’s essentially going through training camp right now.
The lack of practice with Prescott was evident. The duo could have scored a touchdown against the Saints, but due to a miscommunication, the pass was incomplete. Lamb took the blame for the miss, saying he missed an adjustment and these are things that are usually ironed out in training camp.
If only Jerry and Stephen Jones could have stopped this from happening! While they are always praised for signing their superstars eventually, waiting until after the preseason to sign Lamb hurt the team. It stands to reason that Lamb and Prescott would be on complete agreement, rather than just 90%, if Lamb had been signed at the start of training camp.
Their chemistry will only improve over time and that can only mean good things for the Cowboys offense, as Lamb has a 23% target share through two games and gets to face the Ravens’ 26th-ranked secondary. If there’s one path to a win for Dallas on Sunday, it’s to feed Lamb.
