iPhone 16 launches as Apple’s first AI phone: Is Apple’s intelligence worth it?

Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 16 series at the upcoming Apple Event 2024 on September 9. The iPhone launch will be a historic event for Apple as the company will unveil its first AI-powered iPhone after years of planning. Apple has been working on integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into its devices for a very long time, while competitors like Google and Samsung are already one step ahead while Apple is just getting started.

Although Apple is a little late entering the AI race, the upcoming Apple Intelligence features seem forward-thinking, innovative, and competitive at the same time. However, is it worth buying the iPhone 16 models just for the Apple Intelligence? Let’s take a look at what Apple promises to offer with the launch of the iPhone 16.

Should you buy 16 iPhone models because of Apple’s intelligence?

As iPhone users wait for iOS 18 and iPhone 16, “Apple Intelligence” is the biggest highlight of the upcoming Apple event. Apple recently released the Glowtime event invitation, which hinted at the new Siri design and Apple Intelligence. The company has already unveiled several AI-powered features at WWDC 2024 in June, which are expected to launch with the iPhone 16 series in September. While the new AI features could revolutionize iPhone usage, they may not deliver the expected results in the initial phase.

Apple recently released the iOS 18.1 beta for developers and public beta users, but the company has not rolled out all the AI features it announced. First of all, we have seen the AI writing tools, call recording and transcription in the Notes app, AI summary feature in Safari, and others. We have seen these features on Google and Samsung devices before, and they tend to work exceptionally well. However, on iPhones, it could be very demanding due to hardware limitations. Several reports claim that AI-powered features would require a huge amount of memory, which could put additional strain on CPU performance. To run powerful AI features, a smartphone needs at least 2GB of free storage space.

In addition, Apple Intelligence will not be available immediately for iPhone 16 models, as the official launch is expected in October with the iOS 18.1 update. Moreover, all AI features will not be available until late 2024 or the first half of 2025. You must also note that last year’s iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are not compatible with Apple Intelligence, which is a big gap between last year’s iPhones and the upcoming iPhone 16.

Now we expect Apple to introduce more AI features like Genmoji, Image Playground, ChatGPT integration, and others in the upcoming beta versions of iOS 18.
