Inter Miami vs. Charlotte FC: Messi scores goal, highlights

FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. – Lionel Messi could only lie on the pitch with his hands up in disbelief after being challenged by two defenders and stumbling to the ground.

About a minute later, Luis Suarez shot straight in front of the net and a challenging goalie sailed over the net.

Messi was knocking down blow after blow – 10 of Inter Miami’s 20 on the night – until Inter Miami’s No. 10 was crucial to a draw on Saturday night to stay in the MLS Supporters’ Shield race.

Messi’s goal in the 67th minuteTh Minute helped Inter Miami to a 1-1 draw against Charlotte FC at Chase Stadium on Saturday night.

Messi wasn’t happy about this, chirped at the referees and received a yellow card at the end of the game after his last attack on the ball. Messi ran towards the net, but the 37-year-old Argentine world champion was caught from behind.

Still, Messi was able to regain his performance four games into his return from injury before the MLS playoffs begin.

Inter Miami has 65 points in the MLS standings after the draw and needed seven points from its last three games to win the regular season title.

LA Galaxy has 58 points after Saturday’s games, Columbus has 57 points and FC Cincinnati has 56 points.

Inter Miami next faces Columbus Crew, the reigning MLS champions, on Wednesday in a game that could decide the MLS Supporters’ Shield.

It was Messi’s fourth game since returning from his ankle injury in the Copa America, which sidelined him for two and a half months this summer.

Inter Miami coach Tata Martino said Messi needs game time to get into better playing shape ahead of the MLS playoff race and believes he will achieve that with a series of club and international games next month.

“Leo gets better and better as he adds 90 minutes,” Martino said. “Of course, Leo doesn’t have to do differentiated physical work in training, but he needs a competitive rhythm, which leads me to believe that he will reach the playoffs very well, because in addition to the games with us, he also has the games with the Argentine national team . So we have high hopes that he will come into the playoffs in very good shape.”

Inter Miami’s game against Charlotte FC begins at 7:30 p.m. ET (8:30 p.m. Argentina) and can be streamed on Apple TV with the MLS Season Pass.

Following a VAR review, Charlotte FC defender Adilson Malanda was found to have touched the ball after repelling a running attack towards the net by Inter Miami’s Diego Gomez.

The call denied Inter Miami and Messi the chance for a decisive penalty.

Lionel Messi prepared his shot all night long, and he finally delivered it with a left-footed shot that snuck into the bottom left side of the net, helping Inter Miami equalize in the 67th minute.

Messi, in perhaps his most committed sequence full of aggressive dribbling, couldn’t do much with a header he received from Jordi Alba from close range in front of the net.

Charlotte’s Karol Świderski blasted a rebound through the middle of the net past Inter Miami goalkeeper Drake Callender in the 57th minute of that game for a 1-0 lead.

Lionel Messi is visibly upset by his latest miss, a left-footed shot from inside the penalty area that was parried by goalkeeper Kristijan Kahlina.

Just a little outside: Messi’s left shoe appeared to be on target, but ended up just outside the right side of the net in the 36th minute.

Lionel Messi delivered a masterful pass to Luis Suárez, who was unable to score with his right foot in the 34th minute. Inter Miami was on the attack early but couldn’t convert.

Lionel Messi ran straight towards the net but failed to put enough power behind his left shoe. It was saved by goalkeeper Kristijan Kahlina.

Yes, Messi will be in action for Inter Miami against Charlotte FC tonight.

Messi is in Inter Miami’s starting lineup tonight. Here are the lineups for both clubs:

Messi will play with Argentina in October

Martino apparently confirmed that Messi would join the Argentina national team for two matches in October during the FIFA international window.

Argentina plays Venezuela on October 10 at 5:00 p.m. ET and hosts Bolivia on October 15 at 8:00 p.m. ET.

They will be Messi’s first games against Argentina since winning a second consecutive Copa America title earlier this summer.

Before Messi can return to his national team, he could help Inter Miami to their second title with wins on Saturday against Charlotte and on Wednesday at Columbus Crew.

Inter Miami, the 2023 League Cup champions, could meet Columbus Crew at the right time: the game will be The Crew’s fifth game in two weeks.

The team lost to Club America after a 1-1, 5-4 penalty shootout at home last Wednesday in the Campeones Cup, a battle between the reigning MLS and Liga MX champions.

Columbus traveled to the White House on Friday to celebrate its 2023 MLS Cup and will face DC United on Saturday night.
