Insights from Accenture’s APAC report

Artificial intelligence will augment or automate 31% of Indians’ working hours, increasing productivity, according to findings from Accenture’s Asia Pacific Work, Workforce and Employees report.

The impact of generative AI on working hours in India would be significant, according to the report. It could lead to an increase in GDP growth of 0.6 percentage points per year and create an additional economic value of $675 billion by 2038.

Accenture’s APAC research combines economic modelling of the region’s four largest economies, India, China, Japan and Australia, with a survey of corporate governance in those countries and Singapore.

The impact of generative AI in the Asia-Pacific region, which includes major countries such as Japan, China and Australia, will add $4.5 trillion to the region’s economic value and increase GDP growth by 0.7 percentage points.

Notably, however, India’s impact on working hours is the lowest of all APAC countries in the Accenture survey. In APAC, India ranks behind Australia (44%), Japan (42%) and China (33%).

An overwhelming 96% of business leaders in Asia Pacific understand that generational AI will significantly impact their business operations. Similarly, 91% of employees say they want to acquire the skills to work with generational AI. However, only 4% of companies have offered generative training on a large scale.

While 89% of Asia Pacific executives plan to increase spending on AI, only 35% of Asia Pacific business leaders prioritize investing in workforce development.
