‘Inside Out’ spinoff ‘Dream Productions’ gets release date for Disney+

Pixar has announced the release dates for its two upcoming television series on Disney+.

“Dream Productions,” a spinoff of “Inside Out” that focuses on the studio inside Riley’s head that produces dreams, will debut on the streamer on December 11, 2024. All four episodes of the limited series will be available simultaneously. The series, announced in August at D23 following the blockbuster success of “Inside Out 2,” was originally scheduled for a 2025 release.

The original series “Win or Lose,” in which Will Forte lends his voice to a little league baseball coach, will be released on Disney+ on February 19, 2025. In eight episodes, the series shows “what it really feels like to be in the shoes of eight different characters in the week before the big game – the insecure kids, their helicopter parents, even a lovesick referee – with incredibly funny, very emotional and uniquely animated perspectives,” according to Disney. Each episode will have a different visual style.

The Dream Productions logline states, in part, “Riley grows up and when her memories require additional processing, Joy and the rest of Core Emotions send her to Dream Productions. Acclaimed director Paula Persimmon (voice of Paula Pell) faces her own nightmare: trying to create the next big dream after being paired with Xeni (voice of Richard Ayoade), a smug daydream director who wants to break into the big leagues of nighttime dreams.” (Could these themes be self-referential, coming from a streaming show based on a blockbuster?)

The series features the voices of Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph, Ally Maki, Kensington Tallman, Liza Lapira, Tony Hale, Lewis Black and Phyllis Smith. Dream Productions was written and directed by Mike Jones and produced by Jaclyn Simon.

Win or Lose is Pixar’s first long-running original series, as the company’s previous television programs were based on its existing films. The series is directed, written and executive produced by Carrie Hobson and Michael Yates, and produced by David Lally.

“These two series really showcase Pixar creativity at its best,” said Pete Docter, chief creative officer at Pixar. “We’re excited that fans won’t have to wait long for more great content from the world of Inside Out. Dream Productions offers a treasure trove of jokes and fun as it delves deeper into one of our favorite parts of the first film, the creation of Riley’s dreams. And we see Win or Lose as a major, first-of-its-kind tentpole series that really showcases what I think makes our studio great: bold, imaginative storytelling, hilarious humor and characters we can all relate to.”
