‘Insane as hell’ horror film with big twist surprises fans when it’s released on Prime Video

A criminally underrated horror film from the late 2000s has finally found its audience on Prime Video – and it’s less than 100 minutes long.

Some of the best horror movies have twists you won’t forget: Bruce Willis being dead the whole time in The Sixth Sense (that was over 25 years ago, sorry, but I won’t apologize for the spoiler), the reveal of the killer (or killers) in Scream, and the traumatizing final scene in Sleepaway Camp, to name a few.

However, one such hit from 2009 went unnoticed: triangle. It’s not like there’s a big plot-shattering twist – the whole movie is a bit of a puzzle (but that’s about all I can say without giving anything away).

Directed by Christopher Smith (who also made Creep – no, no, that one – and Severance), the film follows a woman (Melissa George) and her friends on a boat trip. When their yacht capsizes in a storm, they’re forced to climb aboard an abandoned ocean liner… and things go south. very strange, very fast.

After the film was released on Prime Video, one fan urged others on the horror subreddit to watch it. “Go in knowing nothing,” they warned.

“All I can say is, watch it with someone. It would have been a great cinema experience. But this is a film that you can watch over and over again. So it’s great for streaming. The film itself is one that you can watch over and over again. Congratulations to everyone involved. A great film.”

One viewer said it made his brain boil, while another wrote: “Triangle is the first time I’ve audibly exclaimed ‘Holy shit!’ at a twist. It’s such a wild movie, it’s one of those that I’m sad I’ll never see for the first time again.”

“I’m glad this movie is getting so much love. Without a recommendation from this subreddit, I would never have found it last year. It’s fun, it’s dark, it’s clever, and at times it’s like a nightmare,” commented a third.

It has a score of 79% on Rotten Tomatoes, and critics are hailing it as a “hidden gem” and “one of the smartest, most thought-provoking genre films” of the decade.
