Infowars assets are being auctioned as part of Alex Jones’ Sandy Hook lawsuit

The auction, scheduled to begin in November, will help pay off the more than $1 billion Jones owes to the families of victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.

Infowars, the media platform of conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, and its assets will be sold this fall to help pay the more than $1 billion he owes the families of victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.

U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Christopher Lopez said in a court hearing Tuesday that he would approve the order, which will force Jones to sell the assets at auction in November, court papers said.

Free Speech Systems, Infowar’s parent company and wholly owned by Jones, will be transferred to the trustee overseeing Jones’ personal bankruptcy proceedings ahead of the sale.

Jones has vowed to his supporters that he will continue producing content even after losing control of his company and has stated that Infowars’ assets could be purchased by his supporters.

A two-year odyssey is entering its final phase

In 2022, the families of the Sandy Hook shooting victims won a $1.5 billion defamation lawsuit after accusing the conservative talk show host of masterminding the 2012 shooting that left 20 children and six adults dead Lives came to be described as a hoax orchestrated by the “Crisis” actors.”

The impact of this case was immediate, both for Jones, who filed for bankruptcy protection, and for his company.

The families who filed the lawsuit against Jones said they were traumatized by his comments and were harassed and threatened by Jones supporters following his comments on his show.

Some were confronted in person and told by Jones’ supporters that a shooting never occurred. In one case, a parent suing Jones said that one of Jones’ supporters threatened to dig up his son’s grave.

Liquidation ordered in June

Lopez back in June ordered Jones’ bankruptcy restructuring to be converted to a liquidation, meaning all of his assets except his primary residence and all other tax-exempt properties will be sold. The closeout auction is expected to begin Nov. 13, according to court documents.

Christopher Mattei, an attorney for the Sandy Hook families in one of the lawsuits against Jones, told the Associated Press the auctions were an important step forward.

“Alex Jones will no longer own or control the company he built,” Mattei said, according to the AP. “This brings the families closer to their goal of holding him accountable for the harm he caused.”

Items for sale in November include Infowars trademarks, copyrighted materials, social media accounts and websites. However, Jones’ personal social media profiles will not be included in the sale.
