Bangladesh decided on Bowling vs India

Bangladesh started India’s home season with the surprise decision to bowl first. This was the first time such a decision had been made in India in five years, and the first time in a series involving India in India in seven years. The last time a team decided to bowl first in a Test in India and involving India was a rain-affected Test on a green seamer.

More surprisingly, Rohit Sharma said India would have bowled first themselves had they won the toss. Three quick tosses from both sides cemented the direction the teams were heading in. Any doubts they might have had were put to rest by the overcast skies, which will come as a relief to the people of Chennai after a week of record-breaking heat.

Rohit said the pitch was a little soft underfoot, which should help with seam movement. The red-soil pitch should provide good bounce and also induce spin as the Test progresses.

Rishabh Pant played his first Test since his serious car accident at the end of 2022. The recovered KL Rahul also made a comeback and played in the midfield ahead of Sarfaraz Khan.

1 Rohit Sharma (Capt.), 2 Yashasvi Jaiswal, 3 Shubman Gill, 4 Virat Kohli, 5 KL Rahul, 6 Rishabh Pant (Week), 7 Ravindra Jadeja, 8 R Ashwin, 9 Akash Deep, 10 Mohammed Siraj, 11 Jasprit Bumrah .
