Inappropriate requests at Comic Con Northern Ireland left The Boys star Valorie Curry feeling ‘uncomfortable’

The popular Amazon Prime series is now in its fourth season and revolves around the titular “Boys” as they face off against a series of villainous superheroes.

Curry was cast in the final season of The Boys as Firecracker, a right-wing antagonist who tries to gain the trust of main antagonist Homelander (Antony Starr) by promising him sexual favors.

According to Curry’s Instagram story, two people repeatedly made inappropriate requests to her during the Californian actress’ appearance at the convention in Lisburn over the weekend.

She said fans had apparently been harassing her about some of her more controversial scenes.

In a video she posted on Instagram on Saturday night, she said: “I’ve just returned from the first day of Comic Con in Northern Ireland. Overall, everyone was fantastic. But we need to talk about boundaries and appropriate behaviour.”

“I know people have seen a character I played on The Boys do some pretty extreme things.

“I don’t care if you wear a costume, I don’t care if you act your part – it’s not okay and it’s not funny to ask those things of me in person at my booth.

“Honestly, I made it pretty clear to the person who did this repeatedly today that this is not okay, and that just seems to have made that person and their friend angry.

“I didn’t think it needed an explanation, but I felt deeply uncomfortable – it was very clear that I felt uncomfortable.”

Curry performed at Comic Con Northern Ireland on both days, September 7 and 8.

The event, which featured many celebrity guests and fans donning the outfits of their favourite characters, took place at the Eikon Centre in Lisburn.

Many guest stars – including “Doctor Who” stars Jodie Whittaker and Billie Piper and “Lord of the Rings” and “Star Wars” actor Andy Serkis – were there to sign autographs and take photos with fans.

Curry said she recently started speaking at conventions alone and “most people have been so nice, friendly and respectful.”

Although she wants to do more in the future, she finds it difficult to imagine doing so if fans continue to make her feel uncomfortable.

She said: “I really want to be able to do this, honestly, I really love it.

“I’m not going to be able to do this if people behave like this because it makes me so uncomfortable and frankly, you should know much better.

“Everyone else knows better. I don’t know what reaction you expected – no one laughed.”

Curry thanked all the fans who met her without being disrespectful as she concluded the video.

She said: “I would also like to thank everyone I have met today and everyone I have met at previous congresses. All of those who are so respectful and kind and who would never dream of behaving in such a way.”

“If you think about it and think it’s just going to last a while or a moment, it’s not and it’s just going to make me feel bad, honestly.

“Please think about this before you come to talk to me. Consider what is appropriate and professional.”

Comic Con was asked for a response.
