Inactive players in week 1 of fantasy football: who is in and who isn’t?

Who should you start? Who should you bench? To help you set your fantasy football lineup and avoid starting an offensive player who won’t be in the lineup, we’ll post fantasy-relevant updates and analysis here as soon as NFL teams release their official inactive player lists. All rankings cited in this column come from the rankings of our ESPN fantasy staff.

Official Sunday non-players should arrive approximately 90 minutes before the scheduled kickoff time: approximately 11:30 a.m. ET for early games and 2:30 p.m. ET for late afternoon games.

1:00 p.m. ET games

Ian Thomas, TE, CAR: Calf — Output/Infrared
Impact: Tommy Tremble (hamstring) is also out, so there’s little reason to turn to Carolina at TE if needed.

Keenan Allen, WR, CHI: Heel — Active
Impact: The veteran will play, but don’t be surprised if rookie Rome Odunze gets a lot of attention.

Ja’Marr Chase, WR, CIN: Illness — Active
Impact: He had been training before the news of his illness. Although he is still stuck in negotiations for a contract extension, he will play today.

Tee Higgins, WR, CIN: Back of thigh — Inactive
Impact: Andrei Iosivas’ value gets a huge boost, and Trenton Irwin and Charlie Jones are also in the running for additional attention.

Josh Downs, WR, IND: Ankle — OUT OF
Impact: Adonai Mitchell moves up the rankings and becomes the No. 2 WR.

Matt Gay, K, IND: Hernia — Inactive
Impact: Spencer Shrader was promoted from the practice squad and will be called up.

Tyreek Hill, WR, MIA: Active
Impact: He was reportedly arrested by police outside the stadium for a traffic violation, but is now cleared to play.

Malik Washington, WR, MIA: Quads — OUT OF
Impact: Braxton Berrios will likely easily transition into the role of the team’s third WR.

Antonio Gibson, RB, NE: Hip — Active
Impact: Rhamondre Stevenson is still expected to get the most touches between the two defenders, but Gibson will also compete for touches.

AT Perry, RB, NO: Hand– Inactive
Impact: Missed a few practices late in the week, so that’s no surprise. Rashid Shaheed and Cedrick Wilson Jr. get small stat bumps.

Russell Wilson, QB, PIT: Calf — Inactive
Impact: Wilson traveled to Atlanta and did some pregame warmups, so there was continued optimism that he was healthy enough to play. However, Justin Fields will start and Wilson will be the emergency No. 3 QB.

Roman Wilson, WR, PIT: Ankle — OUT OF
Impact: The rookie will not debut in Week 1. Ben Skowronek may see some targets.

DeAndre Hopkins, WR, TEN: Knee — Active
Impact: He has been limited in practice all week but appears ready to play. He suffered a torn ACL in late July, so he may need to slowly ease into the game.

Games at 4:00 p.m. ET

CeeDee Lamb, WR, DAL: NFI List — Activated
Impact: Dallas took the expected procedural step this week to allow its best wide receiver to start in Week 1.

DJ Chark Jr., WR, LAC: Hip — Output/Infrared
Impact: Rookie WR Ladd McConkey will get a chance to shine right from the start.

Pharaoh Brown, TE, SEA: Foot — OUT OF
Impact: Noah Fant (toe) was injured earlier this week, but he should be good to go.

Tyler Lockett, WR, SEA: Thigh — Questionable
Implications: After a full practice session on Friday, Lockett looks set to be a good start on Sunday.

Trey Palmer, WR, TB: Concussion — Questionable
Impact: Even if he passes the league’s concussion protocol, he’ll likely still be behind Jalen McMillan in the rankings.

Marcus Mariota, QB, WHAT: Breast — Output/Infrared
Impact: Jeff Driskel will be the replacement for rookie starting QB Jayden Daniels.

Game on Sunday evening

Neither the Rams nor the Lions have any notable injuries relevant to the fantasy scene.
