In the Year of the Pig, couples flock to a panda farm for weddings

IN A unique trend: couples born in China in the year of the pig choose an unusual but meaningful place for their wedding – the panda farm in Jinhua in the Chinese province of Zhejiang.

According to the South China Morning Post, this specialized pig farm has become a popular wedding destination, especially for those who feel a deep connection to the Pig zodiac sign.

The Panda Pig Farm was originally a traditional pig farm and has now developed into a holiday resort and wedding venue. Last year alone, over 200 weddings took place here.

Shen Jianjun, the owner of the farm, noted that the venue has a special appeal for those born in the Year of the Pig.

“People born in the year of the pig feel particularly attracted to this place. Some even include the animals in their wedding photos because they find it more meaningful,” he was quoted as saying.

The farm is home to about 3,000 Two-End Black Pigs, a breed known for their distinctive black and white markings, which have earned them the nickname “Panda Pigs.”

The farm also has technology installed to avoid typical farm smells, giving it even more charm as a wedding venue.

“Because I was born in the year of the pig and studied animal husbandry and veterinary medicine, I have a deep affection for animals.

The Two-End Black is one of the four most famous pigs in China and also enjoys a good reputation worldwide,” he said.

He further explained that this breed was once almost extinct due to its slower growth and higher breeding costs, which were exacerbated by competition from foreign breeds.

The farm’s unique appeal is not lost on couples, such as one bride who shared her experience on China’s Douyin.

“My nickname is Panda, his last name is Xiong, which means ‘bear’ in Chinese, and we were both born in the year of the pig. Getting married on the panda pig farm felt like fate,” she wrote.

In addition to weddings, Panda Pig Farm is also a theme park with attractions such as a cultural exhibition and interactive experiences.

Visitors can explore a pig village and learn about the animals’ habits and habitats.

Shen said the farm has attracted nearly two million visitors in the past three years, with the number reaching up to 12,000 per day.
