Arkansas Tech University student Jack Poole died on the night of Saturday, August 17, in an off-campus dormitory in Russellville.

Poole, 19, lived in Hattieville and was a 2023 graduate of Sacred Heart High School in Morrilton. He was a sophomore at ATU and had declared nursing as his major.

In a press release, Russellville police said initial indications suggest Poole died from an accidental shooting. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.

“Arkansas Tech University extends its condolences to the family and friends of Jack Poole,” said Dr. Russell Jones, ATU President. “There are no words that can adequately provide comfort at a time such as this. Our university community will be present and ready to help those close to Jack grieve.”
