Idris Elba’s film Pacific Rim is set to receive a new television series more than a decade after its initial release.
The 2013 film was the prelude to Pacific Rim Universe where monstrous creatures emerged from a portal (known as The Breach) in the Pacific Ocean. When humanity fought back, they built giant fighting robots called Jaegers and attempted to close The Breach.
The sequel, Uprising in the Pacific, was released in 2018 and is set 10 years after the Battle of the Breach. The Netflix animated series Pacific Rim: The Black finished his second and final season in 2022.

Now Legendary Entertainment has commissioned an origin series for the franchise. According to DeadlineThe project is being developed by the production company Chronology, which was founded by Birdhouseare Eric Heisserer and Carmen Lewis.
“Eric is a multi-talented, prolific creator whose track record speaks for itself with critical and box office success,” said Jason Clodfelter, President of Legendary Television. “We are thrilled to extend our partnership with Eric, Chronology and Carmen with a new entry in the epic, globally beloved Pacific Rim Universe.”
The news comes after the incredibly successful dune The franchise also received a prequel series from Legendary Entertainment.

The six-part series Dune: Prophecy will take place 10,000 years before the events of the main films.
Inspired by Frank Herbert’s novel Sisterhood of Dune, The series follows sisters Tula (Williams) and Valya (Watson) Harkonnen and focuses on how they founded the fabled Bene Gesserit.
After a number of changes during production, an official release window was recently confirmed. Dune: Prophecy is scheduled to be released on Max’s streaming service in November.
