Ibiza’s Pikes extends its dancefloor phone ban to 7 days a week

Clubbers heading to Pikes Ibiza will no longer be able to use their phones on the dance floor, regardless of what night they go.

The White Isle Hotel introduced a policy in April banning mobile phones on the dance floor on Monday nights – “keep your phones in your pocket and concentrate on the music,” it said. This was a success in terms of both the atmosphere and the publicity it generated – it “caused quite a stir across the island” and sparked a “positive change in the way people experience partying in Ibiza”.

This has now been extended to seven nights a week. Visitors are asked to place a sticker over their phone camera at the entrance to the Pikes site and staff will remind them that they are breaking the rules if they are caught attempting to take photos or videos.

“We want you to dance like no one is watching. We want the very special guests in our booth and our resident DJs to feel as comfortable as if they were at a friend’s house party, with the freedom to dance, sing, jump, squeal, scream and party however they want,” the post continues. “We want you to find your new best friends, create memories that live on in your head and not on your phone, and experience the magic of Pikes the way it was always intended. After all, what happens at Pikes stays at Pikes…”

Another popular club in Ibiza, Hï Ibiza, also introduced this policy in its Damian Lazarus Club Room residence and later in the James Hype and Meduza Club Room residences.

Mobile phone bans have become increasingly popular after being introduced by legendary German club Berghain. Various British clubs have followed suit, including FOLD and Fabric in London.
