“I heard a big explosion”: Neighbors film deadly car fire near Dr. Phillips

ORANGE COUNTY, Florida. – Neighbors in an Orange County neighborhood described what they saw Tuesday afternoon: A car containing an unconscious woman burst into flames in the driveway of a nearby home.

The woman, in her 30s, was found dead in the burned-out vehicle in the Dr. Phillips area, officials said.

Fire officials said they were called to a car fire in the 5000 block of Glasgow Avenue around 2:50 p.m. Tuesday.

“It was a crazy, crazy moment,” said a neighbor who wished to remain anonymous.

The neighbor said they were sleeping when the incident started.

“I heard a big explosion. I ran outside and saw black smoke and a woman screaming. I heard a woman screaming. So I jumped in my car, came down a little bit and when I got to the house, the car was just engulfed in flames,” the neighbor said. “The flames were up to the sky and the noise was just completely abnormal.”

The woman, whose identity has not yet been released, was pronounced dead at the scene, sheriff’s officials said.

The neighbor said he saw a “bomb-sniffing dog” and about ten detectives at the house.

“We’re all still trying to figure out what happened.”

The investigation is being led by the state fire marshal, lawmakers said.

No further details were announced.
