The “RHOA” star spoke exclusively with PEOPLE about her experience at the premiere of season 33 on September 17

Phaedra Parks sets her own standards for Dancing with the stars!

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE at the premiere of season 33 on Tuesday, September 17 The Real Housewives of AtlantaThe 50-year-old star said she hasn’t taken any tips from the other housewives who competed on the show as she aims to take home the Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy.

“I didn’t ask them because I want to approach the situation with some sense of candor,” Parks tells PEOPLE. “We talked and they gave me their thoughts on it, but I didn’t really want to hear their advice because I have to win. They haven’t won yet.”

While Parks said her training with dance partner Valentin Chmerkovskiy has been “intense,” she also shared that her experience on the show so far has been “a lot of fun.”

“I’ve heard that it’s a lot of fun, but also a lot of hard work,” she says. “But I’m a highly focused person, so I’m not afraid of hard work. But it’s definitely no less than four hours a day.”

Parks adds that she hopes to “win” the show and “continue to improve and do better every time.”

Your comments come after the former RHOA Stars Kenya Moore and Kim Zolciak-Biermann both competed on the show. While Moore, 53, finished 10th in season 30 in 2021, Zolciak, 46, came 11th in season 21 in 2015. NeNe Leakes was the first of the Atlanta housewives to compete on the show in season 18 in 2014, finishing in seventh place.

In the opening episode of the new season on Tuesday, Parks thrilled the audience with a cha-cha-cha to “I’m Every Woman” by Whitney Houston.

Regarding the reasons for her participation in the show, the mother of two said that she wanted to be a strong role model for her two sons Ayden (13) and Dylan (10).

“They miss me a lot because I’m a very active mom, but I want to prove to them that I can actually dance and be super cool,” Parks tells PEOPLE. “So I’m just doing my best, but they’ll be here in a few weeks to watch.”
