I do!: Margaret Famiglietti and Ray Tavarez

Thirty years and several relationships and marriages later – all with different people – Margaret Famiglietti and Ray Tavarez have finally tied the knot.

The two met in 1994 and became flirtatious friends when, according to Famiglietti, she worked in a nursing home and he delivered medical supplies.

“There was always an attraction between us, but we were both married,” said Famiglietti, a technician in a hospital emergency room.

They remained friends for years, but a romantic relationship never worked out.

“When I wasn’t with someone, he was with someone. When he wasn’t with someone, I was with someone,” said Famiglietti, who declined to reveal her age. “He was always the one who got away from me. I always said that if I had been married to him, everything would be perfect.”

The two eventually lost touch, but two years ago, Famiglietti said, she decided to look up Tavarez on Facebook and send him a message.

“I didn’t know who she was until she said my nickname,” said Tavarez, 58, aka Froggy. He noted that her last name and appearance had changed since he first met her.

At that time, the two ended their respective long-term relationships. A month after Famiglietti broke up with her then-boyfriend, Tavarez called and announced that he had left his girlfriend.

In early October 2022, they went on an official date—dinner at the Cheesecake Factory and bowling at Lucky Strike at the Palisades Center in West Nyack—and in May 2023, Tavarez moved into her home in Valley Stream.

“He just came here that day and never left,” Famiglietti said.

After a nine-month engagement, the couple married on July 12 at the Sunny Atlantic Beach Club in Hempstead Town in the presence of Famiglietti’s daughter and Tavarez’s mother, his three sons and their wives, and his three grandchildren.

Famiglietti said she was thrilled to be part of Tavarez’s family.

“Every holiday we are all together,” she said. Tavarez added, “Everyone loves her.”

Although it took 30 years for the relationship to develop, the transition from friendship to love felt like a natural progression, says Famiglietti.

Her new husband agreed. “When we got together, it felt almost complete,” Tavarez said. “Like it was meant to be.”
