I am so confused by what Apple did with the new action film by George Clooney and Brad Pitt

Summary

  • Brad Pitt and George Clooney’s new film “Wolfs” is affected by Apple’s short-term change in release plans.
  • The decision to show “Wolfs” in theaters for a shorter period of time may be due to Apple’s box office and streaming goals.
  • The limited screening capacity of “Wolfs” in major cities could make it difficult for fans to see the highly anticipated film in theaters.

Brad Pitt And George Clooney do not often appear together in films, which is why I think Apple changing its release schedule so drastically is such an annoying waste of what should have been a milestone event. The actors are both masters of their craft and remain two of the biggest names in Hollywood – despite the industry’s ever-changing landscape. Their previous collaborations have resulted in not only some of the best films with George Clooney, but also some of the best with Brad Pitt. So while I’m still excited about their upcoming project, Apple’s decision impacted how I wanted to enjoy it.

Given the changes the film industry has undergone in recent years – and continues to do so – certain projects have been marketed and released in unconventional, creative and downright unusual ways. There is now more than one way to consume new media that was once traditionally destined for the big screen, but modern developments have meant that what was once a simple decision has sometimes become a little more complex – and Pitt’s collaboration with Clooney is the latest film to be affected.

It is terrible that “Wolfs” is no longer shown in cinemas

Wolf’s one-week theatrical release begins September 20, 2024

When I first saw the trailer for Wolvesone of my first thoughts was that I couldn’t wait to see it on the big screen. It looks like it would be great to see in the cinema. Wolves seems to have everything needed for an exciting cinema experienceNot only does it have big names in the lead roles, but it has a fantastic premise that seems dark but has plenty of room for laughs. I’m also sure it has tons of action sequences that would look great on the big screen.

I have no doubt
Wolves
was developed for the big screen, but now has a much shorter lifespan in its intended environment.

There is only one big problem: Apple now only gives Wolves a week at the cinema. This was not the original plan as the film was intended for a full theatrical release, which fits perfectly with the film, which seems to be a fun retro style that often doesn’t even get into theaters these days. I have no doubt that Wolves was developed for the big screen, but now has a much shorter lifespan in its intended environment.

Why Apple moved “Wolfs” to streaming

Apple’s cash register monitoring may have influenced the decision

There is not just one possible explanation why Wolves will now primarily be a streaming productIt could be, for example, that Apple’s box office statistics showed that not enough people knew that Wolves was on the way, or maybe not enough people wanted to see it in theaters even though they knew it was coming soon. This research is common practice for many studios, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it contributed to Apple’s decision to Wolves a shortened cinema screening.

Relocation
Wolves
The introduction of a new TV channel to the Apple TV+ streaming platform so soon after its brief theatrical release could be an additional attraction for potential subscribers.

There is another possible reason for the move. Reports from Bloomberg suggest Apple is trying to reduce its spending on streaming. If so, then move Wolves on its streaming platform Apple TV+ so soon after its brief theatrical run could be an additional incentive for potential subscribers. The film was not originally intended to appear on Apple TV+ so soon, so it is unlikely that the money will come from the studio’s streaming fund. So if enough people sign up to stream, Wolvesthat’s money going to the platform that the studio’s streaming division may have paid very little for.

Wolf’s plans for a re-release mean I probably won’t see the film in theaters

Clooney & Pitt’s new action film will not be very accessible for various reasons

George Clooney and Brad Pitt shoot guns in “Wolfs”

When I heard about Apple’s new release plan for WolvesI realized that I would have to be extra flexible during release week to have the best chance of seeing the film on the big screen. Then it dawned on me that this wasn’t the only obstacle I had to overcome. With these limited runs, the films often only show in major cities – where I don’t live. So I would probably have to travel further than usual to see a screening, which isn’t always possible.

Apple gives us the Ocean’s 11 reunion I’ve been wanting for 17 years… somehow

In two of Apple’s upcoming original films, the four stars of the “Ocean’s” trilogy will come together again: Clooney and Pitt and Damon and Affleck will compete against each other in two thrillers.

In addition to these two problems, there is also the question of showtimes. Just as the places that show limited-run films are often quite limited, the frequency of film showings is likely to be the same. So if there are hardly any screenings in a far-off location and none of them are at a convenient time, it is basically impossible for me to go to a cinema to see the film. Wolves – and all because Apple changed its release schedule at the last minute.
