I am not voting for Trump or Harris

Former Republican Senator from Pennsylvania Patrick Toomey said he would not support Donald Trump still Kamala Harris for the presidency.

Toomey, a Republican who served on the Senate Banking and Finance Committees, appeared on CNBC’s “Squawk Box” on Tuesday and told the hosts Joe Kernan And Andrew Ross Sorkin that although the outcome is a binary situation, his choice is not.

When asked by Kernan if a vote against Trump was a vote for Harris, Toomey said, “First of all, I voted for Donald Trump twice, in 2016 and 2020, but when you lose an election and try to overturn the result to stay in power, you lose me.”

“We need Republican control of the Senate and that is critical,” Toomey continued. “If the other side gets the upper hand, they will lift the filibuster tactic and be dragged along by their left wing, which is now clearly in charge.”

“It’s about huge tax increases. There will probably be some kind of Medicare for all. There might even be an expansion of the Supreme Court because there will be no tax relief. But the good news is that I think Republicans will take over the Senate.”

Toomey was critical of Harris and her choice of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate and said the election indicated a move to the left.

“When she was in the Senate, she had the most liberal record in the Senate – to the left of Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) – and she was in favor of a ban on fracking, which is perfectly in line with the extreme left wing

“When she had to make a choice for the vice presidential candidate, she could have made a prudent choice, and (Pennsylvania Governor.) Josh Shapiro would have made a statement by governing from the center and greatly improved her chances of winning Pennsylvania, and she’s not going to do that. That shows who’s in control. She’s from the left wing of the party and that’s where she’s going.”

The former senator also said Harris was disingenuous in her stance on fracking.

“Ultimately, she’s going to be beholden to the left wing of the party,” he said. “You can have oil and gas exploration without explicitly banning fracking, and I don’t think she’s actually a centrist now. She never was.”
