I am disabled and my sister excluded me from her wedding for a “superficial” reason

  • Boris, 15, complained about his family on Reddit
  • He revealed that his sister had excluded him from her wedding because of his crutches
  • The teenager asked if he was wrong

A disabled teenager has explained that he was excluded from his own sister’s wedding because his crutches did not fit the theme of their special day.

Boris, a 15-year-old who suffers from mild cerebral palsy, took to Reddit to describe the shocking events that took place on the day of his 22-year-old sister’s wedding.

He revealed that there had been heated arguments between him and his family during his sister Sophia’s wedding because his crutches were blue and would therefore stand out in photos.

In the Am I an Asshole subreddit, he asked if it was wrong of him to have to use his crutches instead of his black cane, as his sister had requested.

Boris explained that his six sisters and his mother had asked him to leave the wedding and accused him of causing a “trouble” because he was told he could not be seen in the family photos.

The post was captioned: “Sister kicked me out of her wedding because I’m disabled.”

He explained: “I (15 years old) am the middle of seven sisters. Yesterday my eldest sister, Sophia (22 years old), married her fiancé and I was very excited. I am very close to Sophia and I like her husband.”

“I have mild cerebral palsy, which means I often use a cane/crutches to walk, mainly for balance.”

He explained that his sister had begged him to customize his cane to match the wedding theme, as his was currently decorated with stickers.

Boris said: “Sophia had asked me to make my cane more appealing for a wedding (the theme was black and white) which I completely understand (my normal cane is covered in stickers). I of course understand that it wasn’t exactly formal so I wrapped it in black tape which my sister was happy with.

“The day of their wedding came and I was just having a really bad day, my legs hurt and I had total loss of balance.

“Although I planned to use my black cane. I ended up having to use my crutches, which are blue. I thought it would be okay (because who cares?)

“I was only able to greet my sister at the reception. She seemed terribly offended that I was using my blue crutches and asked if I could just sit there and not take the crutches out so as not to ‘ruin’ the color scheme.”

“I was frustrated, but I just did it because it’s my sister and she’s right, they stood out a lot.”

When the time came for the family to pose for photos, a heated argument broke out.

“When it was time for the photos that day, I had to rely heavily on my crutches to keep my balance. My sister complained grumpily to our mother: ‘Boris (me) is ruining the photos,'” Boris wrote.

“I told her to pull herself together. Then she begged our mother to tell me I couldn’t be in the FAMILY PHOTOS.

“I was sure my mom would realize how ridiculous this was, but my mom sided with my sister and told me that I was technically ruining the issue.

“My mom, Sophia and I all got into an argument. I couldn’t believe my sister was crying over something so stupid. My sister’s makeup was ruined and now her pictures had ‘ugly blue crutches’ in them.

“Our mother told me to just leave and had the groom’s brother drive me home. I wasn’t allowed to stay for dinner or the cake cutting. My whole family says, ‘It’s their special day,’ and I ruined it by making such a fuss. I just don’t understand how that’s reasonable.”

At the end of the post he asked if he was wrong.

The comments on the internet were flooded and people harshly criticized his family.

One person said: “Not that asshole. Your family sounds pretty damn shallow.”

Someone else added: “Not the asshole. But what the hell is wrong with your family? This is the most ridiculous thing ever. You did nothing wrong and your family are made up of idiots.”

One user wrote: “Not the asshole, your family sounds awful. I certainly wouldn’t talk to any of them if I were you.”

“Your sister has lost her mind. Not the asshole,” wrote another.
