Hurricanes raise nearly $300,000 for Hurricane Helene relief efforts in a 6-4 loss to Predators

The Carolina Hurricanes may have lost to the Nashville Predators 6-3 in a one-sided matchup at the Lenovo Center on Wednesday night, but there are still plenty of positives to take from the game.

Namely, that the Canes raised over $235,000 from ticket revenue for Hurricane Helene relief efforts in front of a sellout crowd.

The Hurricanes offered discounted tickets to their fans on a special night, offering general admission tickets for just $10.

Additionally, the team accepted donations and held a silent auction to raise even more money, bringing the total to nearly $300,000.

As far as the game goes, it was about what you would expect from a group made up mostly of juniors and PTOs going up against a lineup of almost entirely NHL regulars.

The Canes were clearly outmatched and superior all night, but Carolina managed to have their moments in spurts and they made the game tighter toward the end.

Felix Unger Sorum, for example, continues to show why he will be a really good NHL player one day.

The forward had a three-point night with a goal and two key assists, while also going five-for-eight in faceoffs.

Ryan Suzuki, Brendan Lemieux and Bradly Nadeau also found themselves on the scoresheet.

The Hurricanes’ penalty kill also had a perfect performance, going 4-4 against the Nashville power play of Roman Josi, Steven Stamkos, Filip Forsberg, Jonathan Marchessault and Ryan O’Reilly, who combined for 177 goals last year.

Defensively it was a struggle, but the Canes scored some goals and held their own honestly in the final two frames.

And in the end, the most important thing was the money raised and the lessons the young prospects learned from it.
