Hurricanes announce Wednesday’s game will be in relief of Helene

We still don’t know exactly how devastating the impact of Hurricane Helene is in the North Carolinna mountains. The restoration of internet and cell service is still very slow, and every road into the mountains is closed to traffic. Gov. Roy Cooper held a briefing on Sunday laying out what they knew, and a quick look at the details on social media will reveal images that are just a small sketch of what the rest of the world will see, as soon as more people can come to the area.

North Carolina’s professional sports teams have all responded in one way or another and expressed their willingness to help. The Hornets released a message declaring their willingness to help, and the Panthers announced a $3 million donation to mountain relief efforts. You’ve probably also seen a lot of fundraising during Sunday’s NFL games.

The Hurricanes also said Saturday that they are willing to provide general assistance and engage with local officials to determine how best to use their resources.

On Sunday, however, the Canes decided to do one better.

The Canes will have all proceeds from their preseason game on Wednesday against the Nashville Predators donated to Helene’s relief. Tickets are just $10, and the Canes also announced that parking will be free on Wednesday, with any additional donations being accepted there.

If you would like to take part, the maximum number of participants is six. The tickets can be purchased via this link. Note that there is still a fee due to processing through Ticketmaster, so the actual cost is $11.73.

As noted in the tweet, the Canes said more details on the fundraising and relief efforts the team can offer will be announced later, and with the governor being a huge Caniac, there’s little doubt that they’ll be ready will be to offer any other help they can.

It’s not often that you can go to a hockey game and help your fellow citizens for $10. So here’s hoping Lenovo is full on Wednesday evening.
