Huge warehouse planned near Monroe, NJ, faces fierce opposition

🚚 Developer wants to build a huge warehouse near residential buildings

🚚 Petition receives over 1,000 signatures

🚚 Residents have the opportunity to express their opinions

MONROE, Middlesex β€” The proliferation of warehouses in New Jersey is once again facing resistance from residents who do not want this development in their backyard.

The 170,000-square-foot warehouse planned for Monroe also includes 9,000 square feet of office space. The plans were submitted by Edison-based Federal Business Centers, Inc.

It would be built along North Disbrow Hill Road near Butcher Road and would include 21 truck loading docks, according to plans on the municipality’s website.

The area is adjacent to single-family homes and across from the Monroe Place housing development on Butcher Road.

Petition receives over 1,000 signatures

A petition against the planned warehouse on Change.org calls on residents to take a stand against the construction project. By Wednesday afternoon, there were already over 1,075 signatures.

Opponents of the camp said it would lead to noisy truck traffic and affect the quality of life of local residents. They also feared the camp would drive down real estate prices in the area.

A flyer opposing the plans says the biggest problem is that the warehouse does not have direct access to Route 33. Currently, the entrance is about half a mile from the state highway, forcing trucks to travel short distances through residential areas.

Residents are also concerned that the additional trucks will add to existing congestion, although a traffic study concluded that the warehouse would not “significantly alter traffic flow in the area.”

A chance to raise concerns about the Monroe camp

Alan Weinberg, the township’s economic administrator, said the township could not comment on a pending application.

β€œResidents can express their opinions at the planning committee hearing,” Weinberg said.

The next Planning Board meeting is scheduled for Thursday, September 26. According to the township’s website, a meeting scheduled for this week has been canceled.
