Huey Lewis gets TV show in “Curb” style

Singer Huey Lewis gets his own mockumentary-style sitcom.

The rocker plays himself in What happened to Huey Lewis?a fictionalized version of his life. In reporting on the project Deadline noted that the show will be finished “Curb your enthusiasm-style” with a story surrounding Lewis’ efforts to master “his new life after losing his hearing.”

“With the help of his co-dependent family and eccentric celebrity friends, Huey will tackle this hilarious next phase with his unmistakable heart and soul,” Deadline explained further.

This storyline reflects Lewis’ life in recent years. In 2018, the rocker was diagnosed with Meniere’s disease, which resulted in severe hearing loss. He has not toured since going public with his illness.

Lewis will produce the show along with several Hollywood veterans, most notably late-night television host Jimmy Kimmel. Kirker Butler (Only murders in the building, Family man) will write and produce.

Lewis has tried his hand at acting in the past and appeared in television shows such as OneTreeHill And The King of QueensHe had a recurring role in the sitcom Hot in Clevelandand appeared in the feature films Abbreviations And Duets. Fans probably also remember his cameo appearance in 1985 Back to the futurewhich features two of his most popular songs: “The Power of Love” and “Back in Time”.

Lewis’ latest album, Weatherwas released in 2020. Earlier this year, a jukebox musical based on his song catalog premiered on Broadway. The piece, titled The heart of rock and rollbegan in April but ended in June.
