Huckabee Sanders accuses Harris of not having biological children

Since winning the Democratic presidential nomination, Vice President Kamala Harris has faced a barrage of criticism from Republicans, focusing on the fact that she has no biological children. Some analysts say that Narrative could Failure for Trump’s campaign as Election Day approaches quickly approaches.

Former President Donald Trump attended a town hall meeting in Michigan on Tuesday alongside his former press secretary and Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders. While recounting how her daughter prepared for a father-daughter dance, Sanders mentioned that her children keep her “humble.”

She then made a subtle comment about Harris not having any biological children of her own. Harris is a stepmother to two children with her husband, Doug Emhoff, whom they call “Momala.”

“My children keep me humble. Unfortunately, Kamala Harris has nothing to keep her humble,” said Huckabee Sanders. while mispronouncing the Vice President’s first name. (This is how to pronounce “Kamala.”)

Sanders said at the time that being a mother was “perhaps the only job harder than being President of the United States.”

Republican pollster and strategist Jon McHenry called Sanders’ comments an “unnecessary blow” and warned that Republican rhetoric could influence female voters in the upcoming November election. McHenry said the comments against Harris were “not helpful” to Trump’s campaign.

“The Trump campaign needs to minimize the gender gap,” McHenry said. “These comments, rightly or wrongly, are taken much more seriously by female voters than by male voters, and the places where Donald Trump doesn’t necessarily need to win but needs to minimize losses, like the suburbs, are places where I think this will have an outsized effect.”

Sanders’ comments even drew criticism from a Trump campaign adviser. In a CNN interview on Wednesday, Trump’s senior adviser Bryan Lanza said the comment was “insulting” and that he was “disappointed in Sarah.”

“I was also lucky enough to have a stepmother. Without a stepmother, I wouldn’t be here and I wouldn’t be able to have conversations. So I found that comment really offensive,” Lanza said.

“I’m disappointed that Sarah said that. I’m sure I’ll be criticized by the campaign,” Lanza added. “But I have to defend a stepmother. It’s a tough job. There’s usually a difficult dynamic for people who step into that role.”

Kerstin Emhoff, the second gentleman’s ex-wife, defended Harris in response to Sanders’ comment that he had no biological children.

“Cole and Ella inspire us to make the world a better place,” Kerstin Emhoff wrote on X. “I do that through storytelling. Kamala Harris has spent her entire career working for the people, for ALL families. That’s pretty humbling.”

Sanders’ remarks are the latest in a series of comments by Republicans Attack on the Vice President because he has no biological children.

In a resurfaced Fox News post, Trump’s running mate JD Vance, who ran for his Senate seat in Ohio in 2021, described Harris as one of the Democratic Party’s “childless cat ladies” “who are unhappy with their own lives and the choices they’ve made and therefore want to make the rest of the country unhappy, too.”

In an interview with NBC, Vance claimed that his comments about “childless ladies” were “deliberately misinterpreted” by Democrats.
