PROVO, Utah—Jake Retzlaff and the BYU Cougars face their first FBS test of the season when they face the SMU Mustangs in week two of the college football season.
The Cougars (1-0) travel to Dallas, Texas on Friday, September 6th to face Southern Methodist University (2-0).

The Mustangs welcome BYU to Gerald J. Ford Stadium on Friday, September 6th with kickoff at 5:00 p.m. MT.

Retzlaff had career-highs with 348 passing yards and three touchdowns as the Cougars overwhelmed the Southern Illinois Salukis. BYU totaled 527 yards of offense in the 41-13 victory.
This will be the fifth meeting between these two teams in the series. The last meeting was a 24-23 win by BYU in the New Mexico Bowl in 2022. The previous regular season game was in 1997, when the Cougars won 19-16 in overtime.
SMU finished 11-3 in 2023, ending the season with a 23-14 loss to Boston College in the Wasabi Fenway Bowl.
