How to use the leftover pieces of the LEGO Zelda Great Deku Tree

There are plenty of leftover pieces from LEGO The Legend of Zelda 77092 Great Deku Tree 2-in-1, no matter which configuration you choose. Here’s one way to put them to good use.

Nintendo fans will have a difficult decision to make on September 1st: do you build the Great Deku Tree as it appears in Ocarina of Time or Breath of the Wild? 77092 Great Deku Tree 2-in-1 includes the pieces for both options, but as with all sets with multiple kits (see Creator 3-in-1 range), that means you’ll be left with a handful of elements that aren’t necessary for your chosen design.

The good news is that there is technically at least a way to build displays for both retro and modern The Legend of Zelda games using only the parts in 77092 Great Deku Tree 2-in-1 — using leftover pieces from one of the set’s standard configurations. First, follow the instructions to assemble the Great Deku Tree as seen in Ocarina of Time.

In this configuration, you can still assemble the set’s two outbuildings, which are common to both included designs: Link’s house from Ocarina of Time and the Master Sword base from Breath of the Wild. Both are nice additions to 77092 Great Deku Tree 2-in-1, but the base (as pictured above) is a little plain all things considered. That’s where the leftover pieces come in.

Brick Fanatic“Dimitri took the extra elements available after building the Ocarina of Time tree and embellished the base by adding two cherry blossom trees, a couple of Koroks, and the Link and Zelda minifigures from Breath of the Wild. All in all, it brings to life a structure that once looked relatively plain, and arguably works as a beautiful display piece on its own too – allowing you to display worthy odes to both The Legend of Zelda games at once.”

Doing something like this with your own copy of 77092 Great Deku Tree 2-in-1 will not only allow you to better display your Breath of the Wild minifigures while the tree is in its Ocarina of Time configuration, but you’ll arguably get better value for this relatively expensive product.

2-in-1 and 3-in-1 sets usually suffer from the fact that not all of the LEGO pieces in the box are used for the alternate models. Unless you have a particular use for the leftover pieces, you might feel a little shortchanged by the size of what you’re actually displaying. If you can find a way to fit as many elements into one build as possible, you might find the high price of 77092 Great Deku Tree 2-in-1 a little easier to stomach.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first and a LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism, however, runs through my veins like some kind of strange literary blood – the kind that will no doubt cause stress-induced heart failure one day. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
