How to Register to Vote 101 – The Villanovan

It’s no surprise that there will be a presidential election on Tuesday, November 5. With a variety of important issues and legislation up for vote, it’s critical to vote no matter who you support.

For the first time, Villanova students who live on campus will no longer have to leave campus to cast their vote, but can instead go to the John and Joan Mullen Center for the Performing Arts to cast their vote from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Voter registration can be confusing, especially when trying to fill out the form with your Villanova address. Let’s Vote ‘Nova is a campus organization dedicated to educating the Villanova community about voting rights and making sure their voice is heard every Election Day.

Hally Ammons, Villanova’s assistant director of government and community relations, works extremely closely with Let’s Vote ‘Nova to inspire students, faculty and the Villanova community to get out to the polls and cast their vote.

“Young people have tremendous power and a lot to say,” Ammons said. “It is our right and our responsibility to be part of this process.”

Voter registration can raise some questions: Can someone who is registered at home re-register to vote in Pennsylvania? How do you know you’re providing the right information when you register? When do you have to register?

When registering to vote in the state of Pennsylvania, students must complete new voter registration forms. Use the university’s address, 800 E. Lancaster Road, followed by the name of the dorm when asked for the name of the housing. Under the mailing address, students provide their VU PO box number and the correct mailing information. By completing a new voter registration in Pennsylvania, students are eligible to vote on campus instead of having to request a mail-in ballot to vote at home.

It is important to note that even if students have registered to vote at Villanova in the past, they must update their voting address each year to have accurate information about which dorm they live in.

If you are a Villanova University student completing a voter registration form, refer to https://www1.villanova.edu/dam/villanova/studentlife/student-involvement/PA%20Voter%20Registration_Sample%20Registration.pd for step-by-step instructions on the correct information to enter on a voter registration form.

In the state of Pennsylvania, voters must register to vote before October 21. This is also the last day to change a person’s voter registration status, if necessary.

The last day to request a mail-in ballot for the state of Pennsylvania is October 29, but this date varies from state to state. Students can find more information for their home state on their voter registration websites.

“We know that students want to participate and vote where they live, and we are very optimistic that this change will motivate many people to come out and vote,” Ammons said. “We hope that by making it easier for our students to vote and participate in voting on campus, more students will vote. We are very grateful to the county and the community for taking this action.”

Let’s Vote ‘Nova is hosting voting events through October 21 to help students register to vote. Students can also access the Pennsylvania state voter registration form here.

Go to the polls on November 5th from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. and make your voice heard. If you have any further questions, you can email Ammons at (email protected) or visit their office on the ground floor of Tolentine.
