How the amphitheater in North Augusta shows growth

NORTH AUGUSTA, SC (WRDW/WAGT) – North Augusta is seeing growth in several urban areas, including the expansion of the Sharon Jones Amphitheater.

The amphitheater will modernize its restrooms and create a day dock nearby.

City leaders say improvements to the amphitheater and additions to the dock aren’t the only things they’re planning to do.

The city also plans to build more than 300 apartments near SRP Park.

The city says its population has grown 16% over the past decade and that changes need to be made to accommodate that growth.

Mayor Briton Williams says this is just the beginning of investing in North Augusta’s future.

“It’s part of our entire lives and recreation. And if you just look at what we’re doing now, you can literally walk from the boat dock to this amphitheater, to our restaurants, our Crown Plaza, SRP Park, our brick ponds, all the way to Beacon Bluff to our downtown,” Williams said.

Williams says the amphitheater and dock expansions will soon have an economic impact as the new Ironman swim course moves closer to SRP Park.

“So people are staying at a hotel, eating at a restaurant and exploring North Augusta,” Williams said.

The city also plans to add more housing to Riverside Village.

The latest development currently being planned is the SRP Park luxury apartments.

“There are younger people, my kids, generations that don’t want to buy a house, they want an apartment. They want to go to a ball game. They want to go out on the boat. They want to be in the amphitheater,” Williams said.

With a population of more than 25,000 and growing, Williams says they cannot slow down now.

“We’re trying to continue to improve our quality of life. And that’s why I think people want to live in North Augusta,” Williams said.

The developers of the apartments expect to start construction next month and complete everything by early 2026.

Williams says the city will continue to invest resources in this area to attract more tourists.
