Hot and humid with isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) – Beautiful Tuesday morning. Partly cloudy skies to start the day, with warm and muggy temperatures ranging between 65 and 75 degrees.

Some patches of fog developed overnight and some light showers are possible early this morning in Middle Tennessee and parts of far northwest Alabama. A mix of sun and clouds are expected today with a brisk southwest wind gusting up to 20 mph. Highs will be in the 80s to 90s today, this could be one of our last 90 degree days of 2024! Later today a cold front approaches from the west bringing scattered rain showers and thunderstorms to the region, some storms could be stronger bringing gusty winds, heavy rain and frequent lightning.

As the front moves east tonight, showers and storms will intensify and continue into the rush hour on Wednesday morning. The front itself will remain over the Tennessee Valley on Wednesday, bringing intermittent showers and thunderstorms. Not everywhere will see rain throughout the day on Wednesday. The tropical system in the Gulf of Mexico will be the focus of the forecast for Thursday and Friday. The exact path of this system will have a direct impact on the rainfall amounts and wind gusts we will experience.

For now, we’re expecting wind gusts up to 30 mph during the day Thursday, with precipitation heaviest in parts of northeast Alabama. More precipitation is expected Thursday night into Friday before the rain moves northward in the evening hours. There is a chance of flash flooding in our eastern counties, but that should be an isolated threat at this time. Right now, the threat of severe weather appears to be low as we are on the west side of the storm. This is a changing forecast, please check back later for the latest information.

The weekend will bring many dry hours, with only isolated rain showers on Saturday and Sunday and maximum temperatures just over 27 degrees.
