New York Tech Honors College is a member of the National Collegiate Honors Council.

Honors College students gain additional experience in interdisciplinary, real-world problem solving using a collaborative and project-based approach under the guidance of dedicated faculty. Honors College students have dedicated workspaces, resources, and faculty mentors to facilitate a rich learning community. Students participate in exciting extracurricular and co-curricular activities that complement their academic lives and provide opportunities for intellectual, personal, and social growth.

Creating a better world

In addition to their major, Honors College students participate in project-based learning and work in transdisciplinary teams to solve complex problems arising from the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

Students have access to dedicated mentors, workspaces and resources and participate in exciting extracurricular and co-curricular activities that complement their academic life and provide opportunities for intellectual, personal and social development.

Who should apply

The ideal Honors College student is curious, passionate, and highly motivated. We are interested not only in your past accomplishments, but also in your future potential. We value students who have demonstrated strong academic achievement and leadership skills or who have taken an active role in community engagement.

Steps to apply

  • Apply to New York Tech using the Common App.
  • The Honors College application is available through your admissions portal.
  • The application for the Honors College includes a personal statement.
    • In your personal statement, discuss one of the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals that is meaningful to you. Highlight your community involvement, research, leadership, personal experiences, or ambitions for the future as you tell us why you are so passionate about your chosen goal. Your personal statement can be submitted as a (written) essay (300-350 words), as a video, or as a podcast (3-3.5 minutes).
  • NOTE: If your major requires SAT/ACT scores, you must submit those scores as part of your admission. They are not required for admission to the Honors College.

Application process: What to expect

  • Honors College Application Deadline: Extended to March 15, 2024
  • Notification of the decision: 1 April 2024
  • If you are selected for the Honors College, you must submit the Honors College Response Form to accept your spot and submit your tuition deposit in your admissions portal by May 1, 2024.
  • If you are on the waitlist, you will be notified of your acceptance into the Honors College after May 1.

Study program

Honors College students work in teams with students from other departments at New York Tech. Students will:

  • Complete three one-credit seminar courses focused on the UN Sustainable Development Goals. These courses replace one general education seminar course.
  • In the fourth year, complete a final project that is presented at a final Honors conference.
  • Participate in community-building activities, events and lectures.

Housing

Because of the important role that residence halls play in the Honors College life/work community, students are encouraged to live in residence halls in New York City or Long Island. Honors College students are offered preferred housing.
