“Home Edition” designer dies after stabbing

Designer and television star Eduardo Xol of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” has died after reportedly being stabbed to death. He was 58 years old.

According to the Riverside County Sheriff, Xol died on September 20 after being injured in an incident in the early morning hours of September 10 in Palm Springs.

Palm Springs police said in a Sept. 10 press release that officers responded to a call for assistance at 5:41 a.m., which matches the time the Riverside County Sheriff reported the incident involving Xol at the same address.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a man “sustaining significant injuries consistent with an assault.” According to the press release, he told them he had been stabbed and was taken to a local hospital.

His condition at that time was “serious but stable.”

That same day, Palm Springs police received a call from a man who claimed to have been attacked the previous night, the release said. After identifying the caller and further investigating, they determined the caller was the suspect in the stabbing attack.

The suspect was arrested for attempted murder and brought to court on September 10.

TODAY.com has reached out to Palm Springs police for further comment.

Xol was part of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” for more than seven seasons. He has also acted in the 1998 film “Bravo” and in telenovelas such as “La Jaula de Oro”, “Sentimientos de Oro” and “Acapulco, Cuerpo y Alma”.

He has also been a correspondent for People en Español and AOL Latino, published authors, and been involved in numerous charitable projects.

Xol’s family issued a statement to TODAY.com following his death, saying, “We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of our beloved Eduardo Xol. As his family, we know his kindness touched the lives of so many.”

“We ask that this kindness be reciprocated at this time so that our privacy is respected as we process our grief. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made in Eduardo’s name to the Lupus Foundation of America, as he spent so much of his life serving others,” the statement continued.
