Hoda Kotb will leave the Today Show in early 2025

Hoda Kotb’s term in office Today will soon be a thing of the past. The anchor announced on NBC this morning that she will be leaving her post in early 2025. She will instead take a job at NBC News.

“I just turned 60 and it was such a monumental moment for me when I turned 60 because I started thinking about this decade, what does this decade mean? What does it hold? What will it hold for me?” Kotb said on air this morning, according to The Hollywood Reporter“And I realized that at 60, it was time for me to start a new chapter and try something new.”

Kotb was co-host of Today since 2018, but has been in the program for much longer. The journalist first joined the network in 1998 and started the fourth hour of Today in 2007. Later, Jenna Bush Hager and Kathie Lee Gifford joined the cast, and their partnership with the latter made for some truly indelible, wine-soaked moments on network television. (Seriously, the “Kathie Lee and Hoda Without Context” Twitter account is an absolute delight. Kotb once accidentally gave out her own phone number on the air while trying to set up a smartwatch, and we watch her get inundated with calls from strangers in real time. There’s no such thing today.)

In a memo to staff distributed along with the news of her departure, Kotb reflected on the relationships she had forged behind the scenes. “So many of my professional relationships have become some of my most treasured friendships,” the host writes (via THR). “Savannah: my rock. Jenna: my partner. Al: my oldest friend at 30 Rock. Craig, Carson, Sheinelle and Dylan: my family. Libby, Mazz and Talia: my fearless leaders. I will support each and every one of you at Today desperate.”
