This summer was a roast summer. We are approaching the modest fall, which may evolve into a season that lasts longer than the “modest” and “mindful” trend.
One trend that seems to have miraculously enduring appeal is Barbie Summer, a label for June and July 2023 that has somehow remained relevant well into 2024. So much so that HMD just launched a Barbie-branded flip phone. According to The Verge, the phone was announced earlier this year at Mobile World Congress and will go on sale in October for $129.
Like all flip phones, the screen is just 2.8 inches and you type in T9. There are “no distracting apps” that encourage users to “disconnect to reconnect,” according to HMD’s website. But there are Is a 5-megapixel camera with built-in flash that gives your pictures the look of an early digital camera.

“Nothing is better than spending real time together,” the website says. “That’s what the HMD Barbie Phone is all about!”
The phone comes with Barbie cases, stickers, crystals, a pearl strap with Barbie charms and more to help you customize your flip phone experience.
“This flip phone is chic, sleek and pink – and that’s just the outside,” the website says. “When you open it, everything on the screen feels like it came straight out of The Barbie DreamHouse.”
Pre-orders will be available from September 23rd on the HMD website.
