History in Cincinnati? Heat forecast approaches record of 1895

CINCINNATI (WKRC) – It could be a historic day in Cincinnati as the summer heat shows no signs of letting up.

On Thursday, it was 92 degrees in Cincinnati. That was the 35th day of the season above 90 degrees and the highest temperature in five years.

The new drought monitor also showed an expansion of the drought on Thursday. Much of the Cincinnati region is currently in “severe drought,” and “extreme drought” has also spread to parts of Clinton and Warren counties. Highland County remains the worst, with “extreme” or even “exceptional drought” east of Hillsboro.

It will be hotter on Friday – high 94 degrees, close to the record of 95 degrees set in 1895. Yes, you read that right – almost a record that is almost 130 years old.

A weak front approaches Friday night and could bring a few drops of rain late night into early Saturday, especially north and west of Cincinnati. Otherwise, Saturday will be warmer with highs in the 30s. Sunday looks warm as well, with highs in the 30s, but that’s when the changes could begin. Models continue to show better rain/storm chances and cooler temperatures to go along with a cold front next week. That will bring a higher chance of some showers starting Sunday night and into Wednesday.

It will also get cooler, and the maximum temperatures next week will approach normal, at over 25 degrees.
