Highway resurfacing work on SR 165 | Pierce County

On August 7-8 and August 12-13, varying traffic and delays of up to 30 minutes are to be expected.

Editor’s Note: The following is a press release from Pierce County.

Travelers should allow extra time if their trip includes State Route 165 in eastern Pierce County.

Beginning August 7, Washington State Department of Transportation contract crews will repair pavements. The work includes sealing approximately 2 miles of highway south of Carbonado at mile marker 13.97 to the Carbon River/Fairfax Bridge at mile marker 11.6.

work schedule

On the following days, single-lane alternating traffic is planned through the construction site from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.:

  • Wednesday, August 7 and Thursday, August 8
  • Monday, August 12th and Tuesday, August 13th

Travelers should expect 30-minute delays at the construction site. The work is weather dependent and may be postponed.

Chip Seal is the application of a special protective layer to existing road surfaces. The measure extends the life of the road and reduces the frequency of costly emergency repairs.

The work is part of a larger construction project that focuses on road maintenance in four districts.

When you are near work areas, please note the following:

• Slow down – stick to the posted speed limits. These are for everyone’s safety. Also remember that fines are double in roadworks areas.

• Be kind – Workers help keep everyone safe and improve roads.

• Pay attention – both to traffic regulators and to your fellow passengers.

• Stay calm – expect delays, leave early or take alternative routes if possible.

Real-time traffic information is available on the WSDOT statewide travel map and the WSDOT app.
