High-speed Tesla SUV rams into Broward County, killing two women

Two women are dead and another is in critical condition after being struck from the side by a Tesla traveling at high speed.

According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO), at 3:57 p.m., a 19-year-old man was driving a Tesla Model 3 west on NW Sixth Street approaching the intersection at NW 27th Ave in unincorporated Broward County near Fort Lauderdale.

Officers said that at about the same time, a 2023 Dodge Durango containing three women was traveling south on NW 27th Ave, approaching the intersection of NW Sixth Street.

Due to the high speed of the Tesla, it crashed into the driver’s side of the Durango.

According to BSO, the Durango was diverted as a result of the collision and struck a 2024 Chevrolet Trax. The Trax then rolled over on its roof and came to rest in the eastbound lanes of NW Sixth Street.

Meanwhile, the Tesla and the Durango continued southwest and broke through a chain-link fence surrounding a cemetery.

All five people involved in the accident were taken to Broward Health Medical Center, where both the driver and passenger of the Durango were pronounced dead.

The third passenger in Durango is in critical condition.

According to BSO, preliminary investigations indicate that high speed is the cause of the accident. The investigation is ongoing, officials say.
