PHILADELPHIA – If Jalen Hurts was shaken by his first and only interception of the summer on the Eagles’ last day of practice (16 practices in total), he certainly didn’t let it show.

According to WIP’s Eliot Shorr-Parks, who logged every pass, Hurts had thrown a total of 305 passes before the INT.

When it finally happened, Hurts said he simply told Darius Slay, who intercepted his pass over the middle intended for Parris Campbell, “About time.”

Hurts then continued preparing for the Eagles’ regular season opener, which will face the Green Bay Packers on September 6 in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

For Hurts, that preparation will most likely not include the Eagles’ final game of the season on Saturday against the Minnesota Vikings (1 p.m. at Lincoln Financial Field).

Hurts, like virtually all other starters on offense, had already sat out the Eagles’ first two preseason games: a 16-13 win over the Baltimore Ravens on August 9 and a 14-13 win over the New England Patriots on August 15.

Eagles coach Nick Sirianni usually uses the last preseason game to make a final assessment of the 53-man squad and keep his regular players fit for the decisive games. Sirianni also doesn’t want to reveal anything about the offense under new coordinator Kellen Moore.

For Hurts, however, this marks the second consecutive season in which he has not taken his first hit until the first week.

“I’m obviously OK with whatever Mr. Lurie, Howie and Nick have in store for us,” Hurts said of Eagles chairman and CEO Jeffrey Lurie, general manager Howie Roseman and Sirianni. “I really trust our preparation in that regard … Just the mindset that we’re in here with. We’re trying to convey that you really need to trust the process and build on a good foundation.”

As for the interception, Slay, who is entering his 12th season, had a unique perspective when asked if grabbing Hurts’ first INT meant anything.

“I’ve been around for 12 years, I’ve been catching passes from quarterbacks for a long time. A long time,” Slay said. “Some of the greats… I know how to bait Hurts. I made him feel like he was going to get a pass. I just said, ‘Nah. Just a little bait.’ He threw out a line and I just reeled it in.”
