For anyone looking to stock up on hurricane supplies, now is a good time to buy.

Florida’s second sales tax-free disaster benefit begins Saturday. Customers can save money on items like radios and batteries under $50. More expensive items like portable generators costing less than $3,000 are also covered.

Our four-legged friends are not forgotten when it comes to tax exemption. Pet supplies are also tax-free. That means Fido and Mittens are also prepared.

The tax exemption lasts until September 6. Here are some other items covered (from the Florida Dept. of Revenue):

10 USD or less

  • Wet dog food or cat food when sold individually, or the equivalent when sold in a box or carton

15 USD or less

  • Manual can openers
  • Collapsible or travel-sized pet food or water bowls
  • Cat litter trays
  • Bags for disposal of animal excrement
  • Hamster or rabbit substrate

20 USD or less

  • Reusable ice
  • Leashes, collars and muzzles for pets
  • Pet pads

$25 or less

  • Cat litter weighing 25 pounds or less
  • 40 USD or less
  • Portable light sources with their own power supply
  • Pet Beds

40 USD or less

  • Portable light sources with their own power supply
  • Pet Beds

50 USD or less

  • Portable radios with their own power supply, two radios or weather radios
  • Gas or diesel fuel tanks
  • Batteries, including rechargeable batteries, sizes listed only:
  • AA cell
  • AAA cell
  • C-cell
  • D-cell
  • 6 volts
  • 9 volts

60 USD or less

  • Non-electric cool boxes for food storage
  • Portable power banks

70 USD or less

  • Smoke detector or smoke alarm
  • Fire extinguisher
  • Carbon monoxide detector

100 USD or less

  • Tarpaulins or other flexible waterproof films
  • Ground anchor systems
  • Portable animal kennels or animal transport boxes
  • Dry food for dogs or cats weighing 50 pounds or less
  • Over-the-counter medications for pets

$3,000 or less

  • Portable generators used to provide light or communications to preserve food during a power outage
