Hello K-8th graders! Wenatchee’s Youth Sports Spectacular is for you

The Wenatchee High School Athletic Department strives to encourage interest in participating in high school sports among students in grades K through 8.

High school principal and athletic director Eric Anderson came up with the idea of a fun event that would bring together local coaches, athletes and youth sports organizations in a fun, family-oriented setting. The event has been organized as a Youth Sports Spectacular and will be hosted by Panther Athletics on September 11th from 6-8 p.m. at the Wenatchee Apple Bowl.

“By encouraging youth participation in sports, we are laying the foundation for healthy children and strong and competitive sports programs. The Sports Spectacular aims to inspire young athletes to participate in sports and provide them with the resources they need to succeed. We hope to build the future of Panther sports with our younger students and break down barriers to participation,” Anderson said.

Why youth sport is important

The Wenatchee School District touted the benefits of participating in sports and athletics in a press release announcing the event.

Participating in sports and athletics at a young age brings many benefits to children, including:

  • Physical health: Regular physical activity helps children maintain a healthy weight, build strong bones and muscles, and reduce the risk of chronic disease.

  • Mental health: Participation in sports activities can improve children’s mental health by reducing stress, anxiety and depression.

  • Social skills: Team sports teach children valuable social skills such as teamwork, communication and collaboration.

  • Character development: Sports can help children develop important character traits such as discipline, perseverance and sportsmanship.

  • Academic performance: Studies have shown that children who play sports tend to perform better in school.

Visitors to the Sports Spectacular will have the opportunity to visit booths from various youth sports organizations, receive information on participation and registration, and meet coaches and players.

WHS athletes and coaches will be on site to meet with parents and children

The Wenatchee Valley Sports Foundation has information on financial assistance available to families to assist with the costs of registering and participating in sporting events.

Columbia Valley Community Health will host a mobile clinic offering sports fitness assessments. Pre-registration is required by calling (509) 662-6000

Live music and entertainment will be provided by the Wenatchee High School Golden Apple Marching Band, cheerleaders and musical groups. Many family-friendly activities, contests and giveaways are planned for all ages. The event will include an assortment of food truck vendors.
