Heat’s Pat Riley has had enough of Jimmy Butler: Tim Hardaway

A Miami Heat star isn’t so sure Jimmy Butler longs for South Beach.

After a tumultuous 2023 season and subsequent comments from team president Pat Riley, Tim Hardaway Sr., who spent five and a half seasons with the Heat, said Riley was tired of Butler.

“I told a few people, ‘Pat is going to talk this year,'” Hardaway said on the “All the Smoke Podcast.” “He is tired of a lot of things that are happening in the team. He’s had enough of Jimmy Butler.”

After the season, Riley told Butler to “shut up” after Butler claimed that the eventual champion Celtics and the Knicks would have been eliminated if he were healthy.

The Celtics defeated the Heat in their first-round playoff series, which Butler missed due to an MCL sprain.

“For him to say that, I thought, ‘Is this trolling Jimmy, or is Jimmy serious?'” Riley said.

“If you’re not on the court playing Boston, or if you’re not on the court playing the New York Knicks, you should keep your mouth shut when criticizing those teams.”

During the interview with Hardaway, podcast co-host Stephen Jackson added that Riley may also be tired of Tyler Herro, who has missed time sporadically due to injury while the Heat “babysit” him.

Hardaway responded, “He’s probably talking about both, but I think he’s really speaking directly to his star.”

The former Heat star has a good relationship with Riley and the Heat, having been Riley’s first major acquisition as team president when he traded for the star guard at the 1995 trade deadline.

Hardaway previously said that he “loved playing for Riley” during his career, and the Heat retired his number 10 jersey despite playing for the team for a relatively short time.

Butler played in 64 games in 2023, but only one play-in tournament game, before missing the second and ultimately losing five straight games to the Celtics due to the MCL injury.
