Heat warning for the Sacramento area. Find out when triple-digit temperatures are expected

Saddle up, Sacramento. According to the National Weather Service, the capital region is in for “hot days.”

The weather service recently issued a heat warning for the Sacramento Valley and the Sierra Nevada foothills, the agency announced Tuesday, Sept. 3, via X.

“The maximum temperatures will be in the three-digit range, the minimum temperatures between 18 and 24 degrees,” the weather service wrote in a post on X.

The agency also issued a heat warning for parts of central California.

When is a heat warning in effect for Sacramento and the Sierra Foothills?

According to the National Weather Service, the heat warning is in effect from 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 4, to 8:00 p.m. Friday, September 6.

For this period, the agency predicts maximum temperatures between 38 and 42 degrees Celsius with “warm lows at night”.

The affected areas include the cities of Sacramento, Modesto and Stockton, as well as Chico, Fairfield, Grass Valley, Jackson, Marysville, Oroville, Paradise, Red Bluff, Redding, Suisun and Yuba City.

The weather service warned that “this heat could impact outdoor activities.”

“Heat-related illness will be possible, particularly in groups that are heat sensitive,” the agency said of X.

There is also an “increased risk of heat stress or illness” for animals, the weather service said.

What is the forecast for Sacramento?

According to the National Weather Service’s seven-day forecast, here’s what to expect for Sacramento.

Sunny and hot weather was expected in Sacramento on Tuesday, with highs of 37 degrees and lows of 18 degrees.

On Wednesday it will be hot and sunny with highs of around 39 °C and lows of around 19 °C.

On Thursday, the high temperature will be 104 and the low overnight will be around 69.

The weather service predicts highs of 101 and lows of 63 for Friday.

Saturday will be sunny with highs around 95 and lows around 60.

The cooler weekend trend continues on Sunday with highs around 92 and lows around 60.

On Monday, the mercury will drop even further and is expected to reach a high of around 87.

How to stay safe in hot weather

The National Weather Service has released some tips to help you stay safe during hot weather.

This includes:

  • Reduce time in the sun between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.

  • Drink plenty of fluids.

  • Stay in an air-conditioned room.

  • Check those that are more susceptible to heat exposure.
