Head-on collision near Hershey under investigation

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a three-vehicle crash that occurred just before 7:30 a.m. Thursday on Highway 30 near Hershey. Sheriff Jerome Kramer says the investigation revealed that a Trailblazer driven by 23-year-old Hally Falkena of North Platte was traveling westbound when she became concerned that someone was approaching her from behind. That vehicle, a Jeep Liberty driven by a 14-year-old boy with a school-leaving permit, then pulled out to pass her and collided head-on with an eastbound Ford Ranger driven by 58-year-old Daniel Richardson of Sutherland.

The 14-year-old’s Jeep then slid into the ditch and overturned. The Jeep and Ranger, which were involved in the head-on collision, crossed into the path of Ms. Faulkena’s vehicle, causing damage to the front end.

Richardson was trapped in his Ranger and Hershey EMS attempted to extricate him. He suffered a possible broken leg and hip, as well as facial injuries.

The other two drivers had already left their vehicles when emergency services arrived and did not suffer any serious injuries.

Highway 30 was closed to both eastbound and westbound traffic for one hour.
